Tomorrow is a Big Day :)

Monday my boss and her boss pulled me aside (these excited smirks on their faces) bright and early in the morning to give me some news.  I quickly realized I was about to hear all about my next job.

SURPRISE!  I officially start my new job in General Mills' Global Capital Planning Group tomorrow.  Short notice, I know, so I am frantically trying to wrap up loose ends at my current desk so I can move forward easily to my next desk.  I have a lot of passion for helping others, teaching them and setting them up to succeed. So the person replacing me and I have been spending a lot of time together.  I am making a huge effort to make sure I not only show her HOW to do the job (process) but also WHY it needs to be done, ways to improve it and how her decisions impact not only the department but the broader finance team and division.

My new job:  It sounds like I will be working with a lot of important people.  EEK!  I welcome the challenge, am nervous for it and hope they realize I interrupt (a LOT) and basically just tell it like it is.  They might be in for a shock!  The blond hair and chubby cheeks can be deceiving. :)  More to come as I figure it all out.....Right now, I just have to find where in the world my new desk is located.

Equally exciting is the fact that Ryan and I finally gave in.  We are going to the Twins Game tomorrow night.  I had the opportunity to enjoy a game with work in June, but Ryan has yet to see the new stadium.  We were so put off my how expensive the tickets are since we normally used our student ID's to go on Wednesdays for $5.  A new job and 2 promotions is a good excuse to spend $24.95 for each ticket right?  (So expensive!!!!!!)  Anyways, we are excited!  Because I think baseball is one of the worlds most boring sports to watch (along with golf and tennis) we got seats in the Skyline section so I can stare at the pretty city lights all night long if I get too bored.

The Blood-letting Episode

At work we always have events going on:  food drives, walks, runs, donations, silent auctions and blood donations.  This week was one of the blood donation weeks.  The Finance VP in the division I work in at General Mills was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and we were all encouraged to donate.  I have donated maybe 5-6 times previously and thought I might as well do my fair share and help someone out.

On all the literature they give you when you sign up they clearly state to eat a lot and drink a lot of water and get a good night's rest.  You have to weigh a certain amount, can't have any diseases, can't take certain medications etc.    I followed all of these rules :)

I like to think of myself as a champion blood giver, I finished off a pint last year in 3 min and some seconds.  So I was ready to be a speed donater again this year, especially since I had lunch plans at noon and my donation time was 11:30.

Things went really well!  It took over 6 minutes, they said I couldn't squeeze so hard or else I would cause a bruise so I blame that as the reason for not making it under 4 minutes.  I asked if anyone had any problems yet today.  My scale started beeping, they came over to finish up by clamping down the bags and taping me up with a cute bandaid (I chose blue).

Just about the time they were pulling out my needle, it started to get a bit warm, then about one second later the tunnel vision came on (and quickly!) just as I realized I was dizzy I said "uh-oh!" and not a second later I was out.  Apparently I was out for a while because they called over another nurse and had time to get the smelling salts.  I woke up to them shouting my name and telling me next time I better each lunch before 11 if I want to donate at 11:30.  Apparently, I also was not supposed to run 3 miles and lift prior to donating either!  How am I supposed to know that?  They didn't tell me!  I feel AWESOME after working out.

Well, I felt terrible the whole rest of the day.  I couldn't stand for any length of time, I was dizzy, nauseated.  My bosses and coworkers said I should just go home (OK!) but maybe I shouldn't drive.  So I attempted to contact my wonderful husband.  Ryan was training people all day yesterday so I left him a text message and a googlechat message because I know he gets those on his phone.  He didn't believe that "I passed out."  "Seriously."  "Please come pick me up." was real.  Nor did he reply for several hours.  So I spent an entire afternoon sitting at my desk, unable to concentrate, chugging liquids and eating as many cookies as I could fit in my tummy until I finally had to drive myself home at 4pm.  Trust me, cars zooming by when you are dizzy and nauseated is not an ideal situation.

Ryan non-chalantly strolls in around 5:30pm and asks what's up.  Ummm...hello?  You can imagine how wonderful he was to me the rest of the evening :)

Our 1st Blog Post!

Welcome to our Blog!  I can't promise we'll be very good at updating or will have lots of great stories to update with but we will sure try :)

Job Update
For the past month I have been waiting and anticipating news from work about moving on to a new job and hopefully getting a promotion.  While I have not received all of the news I want to hear I have heard 3 things:

1) They are working on my next rotation to a new job and the timing will be Oct 1st-15th,
2) My next job will not be ANYTHING that I want :( , and
3) They have announced my backfill!!

This means all of a sudden I will be much busier as I begin training the person who will be taking my job.  I can only anticipate that my own announcement will be shortly forthcoming.  I can't imagine they'd want to pay two salaries for one job for any amount of time!  My fingers are crossed that I will soon find out what the next 1.5-2 years of my life will revolve around (besides my husband of course).  Still very disappointed it will not be anything that I want to advance my career......

AND!  Last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago now?) Ryan got a PROMOTION at work!!!!!  He works very hard, travels a lot, misses out on lots of fun events at home when he's gone, has to deal a lot of very difficult people and a really ridiculous workload.  It was a much deserved promotion and I am so proud of him!!! (He is proud too but he would never tell you that he is proud or that he got the promotion, he didn't even tell his own mother!)
